The Power of Partnership. We are thrilled to announce that this week’s efforts were fueled by a significant $10,000 USD grant from the Toledo Rotary Club Foundation Fund of Greater Toledo Community Foundation. This milestone was made possible through the dedicated support of School Board member Mr. Peter Chudy, who played a vital role in advocating for our team throughout the grant application process. We also owe a debt of gratitude to Ms. Ligita and Stephen Miele; these exceptional educators have been at the heart of the #ASWforUkraine project since its very beginning. Their commitment has driven this mission’s longevity.
Planning for the Long Term. This generous funding is a game-changer for our planning. Rather than operating week-to-week, this grant allows us to schedule five major food distribution events, providing a stable roadmap for our support program. In an environment where refugee needs are often met with unpredictable aid, this grant allows ASW to provide something even more valuable: reliability. Because of this support, we were able to provide essential food supplies for nearly 200 families this past Saturday alone.
Beyond Charity - A Lesson in Sustainability. #ASWforUkraine is more than just a food distribution program; it is a core pillar of our service-learning curriculum. By participating in these projects, our students learn a fundamental lesson: true helping is sustained helping.
Through the lens of this $10,000 grant, students are learning the logistics of humanitarian aid—understanding how long-term planning, budgeting, and consistent community presence create a much deeper impact than a one-off donation. Guided by our experienced faculty, our students aren't just handing out supplies; they are learning what it takes to anchor a community in crisis.
Our Continued Commitment. We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication and grateful to Mr. Chudy, Ms. Ligita, Mr. Miele, and our international partners for trusting our mission. Together, we are proving that even years into a crisis, the ASW community remains committed to showing up when it matters most.
Join the Effort: We invite our entire community of students, parents, ASW alumni & friends to keep on supporting the #ASWforUkraine mission. Whether you choose to contribute financially or give your time by volunteering during our food distribution events, your involvement ensures this vital work continues.
