On 24 February 2022, Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to the estimations by the Ukrainian Defence Minister, the Russian invasion could potentially force between three and five million people to flee their homes. Within the first week since Russian troops entered Ukraine, more than 600 thousand Ukrainians have crossed the border to seek shelter in Poland, and the numbers are growing by the minute.
We feel it is our responsibility as a community to provide the refugees with any help they need.
Our Warrior spirit is shining through as we rally as a global community in support of the crisis in Ukraine. Almost instantaneously, we were able to organize ourselves to maximize the giving - not only of items and time, but compassion and care for those seeking refuge in Poland. ASW is staging a massive mobilization of our community on a variety of fronts. We are donating food and other needs to our partner agencies working directly in the Warsaw area with refugees. Our longstanding partnership with these organizations means immediate assistance where it is most needed.
The eyes of the whole world are focused on Ukraine now, but the Ukrainian refugees are going to need our help for many weeks to come; even when the Russian invasion is finally brought to a halt, and peace brought to the region. As the needs will continue to grow and change over the course of the crisis, please know we are committed to help see this through; standing side by side until our support is no longer needed.
That's the logic behind starting a RallyUp campaign and collecting money that would provide us with additional funds to sustain these operations for the weeks and months ahead. The money will not only facilitate getting the right amount of much needed resources, but also will serve as a long-lasting financial reserve that we will be using to pay for food, gas, transportation and support as needed.
