Alumni Spotlight: Shery Wolff (Class of 2023) – A Star in the Making

With Polish-French roots and a birthplace in Iran, Shery's upbringing was truly global. Before settling in Warsaw, she lived in China and several other countries, Egypt and France amongst them. But it was here, in the halls and classrooms of the American School of Warsaw, that she first felt a sense of true belonging. She attended ASW from 8th through 12th grade, and those years became a deeply formative period in her life.

Even as a student, Shery knew exactly where her heart lay—on the stage. While still at ASW, she landed a role in a Polish TV series, a life-changing experience that sharpened her focus and inspired many of her future choices. This early taste of the acting world led her to pursue Theater as part of her IB Diploma Programme. But it wasn’t just a subject for Shery—it was a calling.

She dove headfirst into the ASW Theater program, which she describes as unlike anything else she'd encountered in any other school around the world.“The experience helped me learn how to push boundaries within the field,” she says. One of her proudest moments was auditioning for—and landing—a male lead in Shakespeare in Love, becoming the first female student at ASW to do so. She recalls being frustrated that key roles were so often reserved for male characters, and decided to challenge the status quo. After playing lead roles in West Side Story, The Addams Family, Noises Off, and landing the role of Shakespeare, Shery grew the confidence to continue taking risks, and even take leadership roles, such as as assistant directing Footloose, and organizing ASW's first ever Fringe Festival, which encourages the expression of individual and unique artist voices - the perfect space to push boundaries.

It was the guidance of ASW’s Theater and Performing Arts Director, Mr. Nicolas Pavlos, and the unwavering support of her teachers that Shery credits with preparing her for the next big leap: auditioning for the Acting Conservatory at NYU. Her hard work paid off—Shery is now in her second year at NYU, pursuing her Acting Major and building a vibrant, challenging, and fulfilling life as a young actor in New York City.

“I’ve learned to take risks,” she reflects. “Even just auditioning for the programme at NYU was a risk, and it was scary. But that success reminded me to continue taking risks and be bold, in the same way that I was on the ASW stage."

In addition to acting, Shery recently wrote and directed her first short play, discovering a new layer to her creative identity. With each project, she continues to grow her portfolio and deepen her understanding of the craft. Her early TV work and extensive theater background from ASW have become powerful assets as she navigates the competitive world of acting.

Now, Shery has returned to ASW—not just to visit, but to give back. She’s spending a week leading conservatory-inspired workshops with current IBDP Theater students, sharing insights, tips, and inspiration with those who hope to follow in her footsteps.

“I’m so grateful for the foundation I received here,” she says. “The creative and leadership-oriented opportunities I was given here allowed me to fully commit to exercising my passions and ultimately shaped the kind of artist I am today."

We’re incredibly proud of Shery Wolff and can’t wait to see where her talent and drive take her next. Something tells us we’ll be seeing her name in lights very soon.
